In the evening or early morning, you will take a bus from Cusco to the train stations in Ollantaytambo or Poroy, where you'll board the Expedition train bound for Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. The next day, you'll wake up early to begin your journey to Machu Picchu. Regardless of your choice, you'll arrive at the entrance to Machu Picchu, where you'll enjoy a 2-hour guided tour to learn about the main points of interest and the rich history of this magical place.
You can take panoramic photos or walk through the ruins. If you have your entrance ticket to Huayna Picchu (US$ 75.00, advance reservation required), you can enjoy breathtaking views from the summit.
Once you've finished your tour, you can return to Aguas Calientes for a relaxing lunch, more shopping, or an additional soak in the hot springs. Then, you'll board the return train to Ollantaytambo, from where you'll take the bus that will bring you back to Cusco.
