Day 1: Aguas Calientes
The journey begins early, around 6:00 a.m., with a pick-up at your hotel in the city of Cusco. From there, you will be taken to the Poroy train station, located about 25 minutes from the city center. Onboard the PeruRail train, you can enjoy a scenic ride as you head to the village of Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
Upon your arrival in Aguas Calientes, a guide will be waiting to take you to the bus station. From there, you will take a winding road to reach the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, also known as "The Lost City of the Incas." This journey will take about 30 minutes and will offer spectacular views of the mountainous surroundings.
Exploring Machu Picchu
Once at Machu Picchu, the guide will take you on a guided tour that lasts approximately two hours. During this excursion, you will visit some of the most iconic places in the citadel, such as the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Rooms, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the cemeteries. These structures will tell you the history of the Incas and give you an idea of the greatness of their civilization.
After the tour, you will have free time to explore on your own, take photos, and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. You can choose to have lunch at one of the local restaurants in Aguas Calientes or even at the Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, located near Machu Picchu (lunch is at your own expense).
Return to Cusco
