📅Day 1: Cusco – Wayllabamba
Start your day early with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco for a bus ride to kilometer 82, where the Inca Trail begins. The initial hike is relatively easy and offers stunning landscapes, with views of Mount Veronica and the Vilcanota River.
You’ll head toward the archaeological site of Llactapata, where you’ll enjoy lunch before continuing to the first campsite at Wayllabamba. After a day full of breathtaking scenery, relax with a comforting dinner and a night under the stars.
📅Day 2: Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayu – Runkurakay – Chaquicocha (B)(L)(D)
After an early breakfast, you’ll face the most challenging day of the Inca Trail, climbing to the highest point of the route — the Warmiwañusca Pass or “Dead Woman’s Pass,” located at about 4,200 meters above sea level.
The ascent can be demanding, but the panoramic views and the satisfaction of reaching the highest point make the effort worthwhile. After this milestone, descend to have lunch in Pacaymayu before continuing to the Chaquicocha campsite for dinner and rest.
📅Day 3: Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñaywayna (B)(L)(D)
The third day offers a more relaxed hike but with many points of interest. The route takes you through various ecological zones and archaeological sites such as Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, and Phuyupatamarca, known as the “City Above the Clouds.”
Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular views and have time to explore these ancient sites. After about six hours of hiking, you’ll reach the campsite at Wiñaywayna, just two hours from Machu Picchu.
In the evening, enjoy dinner and rest up for the big day ahead.
📅Day 4: Wiñaywayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco
You’ll wake up early to begin the final stretch toward Machu Picchu. Hike for about two hours until you reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where you’ll have your first and most stunning view of Machu Picchu.
Here, the first light of day illuminates the citadel, creating a truly unforgettable moment. After exploring Machu Picchu with a two-hour guided tour through its streets, plazas, and temples, take the tourist bus down to Aguas Calientes.
Depending on your return time, you’ll board the panoramic Vistadome train back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel to rest after an incredible Inca Trail experience.
