Choquequirao trek Itinerary 4 Days
Choquequirao is a lost Inca city located in the Vilcabamba Valley in southern Peru. Considered one of the most important Inca cities after Machu Picchu, Choquequirao was built in the 15th century and abandoned in the 16th century. It stands out for its impressive architecture, agricultural terraces and panoramic views of the Apurimac Canyon.
Day 1: Cusco - Cachora - Chiquisca (L)(D)
The first day of the tour begins at 6:00 a.m. with pick up at your hotel to go to Cachora. During the trip, you will have the opportunity to see from the bus the archaeological remains of Tarawasi.
Then, you will head to the Cunyac Bridge, which marks the border between Cusco and Apurimac. You will travel through the districts of Curawasi and Saywute before arriving at Cachora at approximately 10:00 a.m. From Cachora, you will begin a hike on a gently sloping trail until you reach the Capuliyoc pass, at 2800 m., where you will have lunch after a two-hour hike.
Then, we continue the descent to the town of Chaquisqa, at 1930 m.a.s.l., which offers an impressive landscape and warm climate. The trek takes about three hours and you will spend the first night camping.
Day 2: Chiquisca - Playa Rosalina - Sunchupata (B)(L)(D)
After breakfast at 5:00 a.m., the hike continues to Playa Rosalina (1550 m.a.s.l.). From there, the ascent is to Santa Rosa (2100 m.a.s.l.), the most difficult part of the trek, completed in about three hours.
After lunch in Santa Rosa, we continue to Marampata (2850 m.a.s.l.), which has a gentler ascent. From here, you can enjoy views of the first day's hike and the vegetation of the area.
The camp will be in Sunchupata, a two hour hike. This place is only one hour from Choquequirao.
Day 3: Sunchupata - Choquequirao -Chiquisca (B)(L)(D)
The day starts early, at 5:00 a.m., to reach Choquequirao and witness the sunrise. For about three hours, the guide will explain the importance of this Inca site and we will be able to see the Inca constructions such as houses, temples and more.
At the indicated time, we will return to Sunchupata, descending to Santa Rosa for lunch. Then, we descend to Playa Rosalinas and arrive at Chaquisqa, where we will camp.
Day 4: Chiquisca - Capuliyoc - Cachora(B)(L)
Breakfast will be served at 6:00 a.m. in Chaquisqa before returning the same way to Cachora. The ascent to the Capuliyoc pass takes about two hours and two more hours to Cachora. On the way, you can enjoy views of snow-capped mountains and the Apurimac Canyon.
In the afternoon, you will visit the thermal medicinal baths of Qonoq before returning to Cusco, arriving around 8:00 p.m., where you will be transferred to the hotel, concluding the tour.
