Maras, Moray and Salineras Detailed Tour
Our tour begins with the pick-up from your hotel in the city of Cusco in our private transportation, heading to the town of Maras, passing through very typical villages and beautiful landscapes that we can enjoy on our way. Upon arrival, we will visit the following places:
We will start the adventure departing from the city of Cusco towards Maras, where we can appreciate the Urubamba Mountain Range and the snow-capped peaks of "La Verónica" (5682 m.a.s.l.) and "El Chikón" (5530 m.a.s.l.), and where we will have a typical drink made from corn. We will continue towards the archaeological complex of Moray, unique in its kind in the region. It consists of giant natural holes or terraces, where the Incas built platforms or terraces, each with its respective irrigation system. What stands out the most is the change in the average annual temperature that varies from the surface to the bottom of the terraces. It is believed that this agricultural laboratory was built on a rocky surface, which is why it never floods during the rainy season. We will spend an hour at this site to examine its construction and design, then we will sit down to enjoy our box lunch.
Salinera
We will arrive at Salineras or salt mines (located northwest of Maras), where we will find 3000 small wells with a depth of 1.80 meters that are built at the foothills of the mountain "Qaqawiñay." During dry seasons, they are watered every three days with saltwater that emanates from a natural spring located at the top of the wells. Over time, these wells will dry out, showing a range of colors and textures. The salt in the wells will solidify to be processed for human consumption. Finally, we will be returning to the city of Cusco at approximately 3:30 p.m.
