Reserve Manu Biosphere is protected by the Peruvian government and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is Peru’s largest national park and is very well maintained by Ministry of Culture of Peru. Manu Biosphere is characterized by a wide variety of natural biodiversity, it is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. Their diversity is such that there are animals and plants that are not seen elsewhere. The largest number of terrestrial vertebrates in Latin America is here and the park is home to more than 15,000 plant species and 1,000 birds.
Itinerary
Itinerary:
Day 01: Cusco / Cloud Forest / Pilcopata
We start from Cusco in the morning in our comfortable bus. We ascend to the heights of Paucartambo. On the way we visit the funeral towers or Chullpas Ninamarca. Then we descend through the mysterious cloud forest full of beautiful orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. We are stopping to give you the opportunity to witness Cock of the Rocks (Rupícola peruviana) in the mating ritual. There are also possibilities to observe trogones (Trogon sp.) and many more species of birds. If luck the only South American bear, the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon we reach our typical with toilets and showers where we spend the night Hostel.
Day 02: Pilcopata – Atalaya – Amazon Lodge
After our breakfast, we continue on our bus and we walk where we can see many birds. On the way also visit plantations of coca leaves. Then reach the port of Atalaya, where we board our boat approx. 30 minutes to our hostel where we stay. and in the afternoon we will explore the forest to a mountain where we have a beautiful view. At night we have evening walks .. Night in hostel with bathrooms and showers available.
Day 03: Amazon Lodge / Collpa / Cocha Machuhuasi
Very early we went by boat to the parrot clay lick. where is observed three to four species of parrots and small Huacamayos, then return by boat to Machuhuasi where we will walk. Coming so at the lagoon where we use rafts to navigate approximately 1 hour watching a variety of birds, monkeys, capybara, small reptiles, dwarf caimans and insects. In the afternoon we return to our lodge for lunch. In the evening we will have night walks (optional). The night in the Hostel with bathrooms and showers available.
Day 04: Atalaya / Return to Cusco
After our delicious breakfast unfortunately the hostel return by boat to the port of Paititi Atalaya. where we expect the bus to return to Cusco, again through the mysterious cloud forest destined for the Imperial city of Cusco. approximately 6:00 to 7 pm arrival.
